Evaluation or consultation with a speech-language pathologist may be warranted if you have concerns regarding your child’s speech or language development or use in any of the following areas:
- Is your child gesturing, but not talking? Does your child seem to have a limited vocabulary for his/her age?
- Does your child have a hard time understanding/following directions?
- Do you have a hard time understanding your child’s speech?
- Do teachers point out to you that your child is more difficult to understand than other children his/her age?
- Does your child frequently struggle to speak and/or repeat sounds, syllables, or words when speaking?
- Is your child’s voice chronically hoarse?
If you have ANY concerns about your child’s development, please don’t “wait and see” if your child grows out of it. Contact an ASHA certified, licensed speech-language pathologist for an evaluation!
The cost and length of a speech and or language evaluation varies, depending on the concerns and type of testing needed. Each evaluation is customized to the child or adult and will address all areas of concern. Evaluations use both formal (standardized assessments) and informal measures in order to get a clear picture of the adult’s or child’s strengths and weaknesses. Following the evaluation, you will receive a formal report within a few days of testing.
